UI lengthens College of Education name

Because they don’t do education any more. Schooling is about things other than reading, writing, and arithmetic.

The Idaho State Board of Education has approved a University of Idaho request to change the name of the College of Education to the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences.

Is that a subset of the Department of Heath and Human Services?

Ali Carr-Chellman, dean of the college, said in a news release, “We now have a name that illustrates the critical elements of our college.”

The change highlights programs offered outside teacher education, such as movement sciences, athletic training, tourism, dance, recreation, exercise science, counseling, rehabilitation and community health.

The college serves more than 1,000 students each year in six bachelor’s degree programs, nine master’s degree programs and three doctorate programs.
