The University of Idaho has adjusted its mandatory furloughs to meet a budget cut ordered by the governor. The UI’s next fiscal year budget has been cut by 5% to deal with the economic fallout from the coronavirus shutdown.
UI President Scott Green recently issued a letter to the campus community announcing final details of the mandatory furloughs. The minimum furlough for every UI employee is 8 hours. That was reduced from the initial 24 hours of furlough that was announced last month.
UI workers with salaries over 40,000 dollars must take an additional furlough based on a sliding scale of between .25% and 3.6% of their annual pay. UI employees who make over 90,000 dollars annually must take the mandatory 8 hours of furlough, the additional furlough hours based on the sliding scale and further furlough equal to 1% of their salary.
The furlough must be taken between June 28th and January 23rd. Faculty cannot cancel classes for furlough.
President Green and the UI provost’s furlough will equal 8% of their salaries which will be the largest pay cuts for anyone at the institution.
