A decline in usage of New York City’s subways and buses will result in a $376 million drop in revenue over the next four years. Ride-hail companies such as Uber and Lyft, as well as turnstile jumpers and poor subway service, are behind the losses, according to the MTA. The body overseeing the city’s buses and subways is expected to increase fares by 4% in 2019 and again in 2021.
