‘Star Trek’ License Plate Revoked For Being Offensive to Indigenous People
A Canadian “Star Trek” fan was forced to surrender his license plate because it contained language that allegedly offended indigenous people. CTV News reports the Manitoba Public Insurance revoked Nick Troller’s license plate that read “ASIMIL8” after receiving complaints. Troller, who had the license plate for two years, provided context for the license plate in its holder.

The license plate holder reads, “WE ARE THE BORG” and “RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.”
Despite the “Star Trek” references surrounding the license plate that are engrained in modern culture regardless of whether one is a Trekkie, Troller allegedly received a phone call from Manitoba Public Insurance informing him that two whole people complained about his license plate.
He then received a letter, reading, “…it has been brought to the attention of this office that the personalized plate ASIMIL8 is considered offensive.” Troller was offered to receive a new personalized plate or a refund of $100.
