This has been my experience as well.
That said, many in Eastern Europe are still recovering from decades of USSR socialism, and they do have a cultural memory.
But in the US, the only cultural memory is of fighting Nazis, Japanese, North Korea, and North Vietnamese. No actual experience with socialism.
They really need to get out and travel the world before they impose Socialism on the USA.
