The Pullman Police Department has completed its investigation into an alleged sexual assault that was reported by Pullman High School staff.

The initial report was that the alleged assault occurred at the high school. Pullman Police say the alleged incident occurred at a home. Detectives believe there is enough evidence to reach the probable cause threshold for a 3rd degree felony rape case. It’s now up to the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if they can prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt and file charges. The allegation involves a male student sexually assaulting a female student. Both individuals are juveniles.

The Pullman PD investigated a second allegation that the boy assaulted the girl at the high school. Detectives didn’t find enough evidence and probable cause to pursue that potential misdemeanor assault case.

Dozens of PHS students walked out of class on September 23rd and marched downtown to protest what they claimed was a lack of response by the school administration. PHS administrators said they reported the allegations to the Pullman PD immediately. Pullman Police Commander Aaron Breshears says the high school administration did appropriately report the allegations right away.

The assaults that were investigated occurred in September.
