President Trump: ‘Wiretap Covers a Lot of Different Things’

(Image via Twitter) President Trump in an interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Wednesday discussed his controversial claim that the Obama administration wiretapped Trump Tower ahead of the 2016 election. He told Carlson that “wiretap” could mean “a lot of different things” – or, more broadly, electronic surveillance, as his White House press secretary Sean Spicer indicated in a press briefing on Monday.

“When I said ‘wiretap,’ those words were in quotes,” said Trump. “But wiretap covers a lot of different things.”

He explained that he first got wind of the notion when The New York Times published an article on how the Obama administration was intercepting communications in its investigation of Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election.

“I read in – I think it was January 20th, a New York Times article and they were talking about wiretapping,” said Trump. “There was an article, I think they used that exact term.”

“Now, for the most part, I’m not going to discuss it because we have it before [the House Intelligence Committee] and we will be submitting things before the committee very soon that hasn’t been submitted as of yet,” he went on. “But it’s potentially a very serious situation.”

The President added that people can expect “some very interesting items” to surface in support of his claim over the next two weeks.
