That’s because millennials were purposefully never taught the history of socialism in government schools.
A new poll found that seventy percent of millennials say they are somewhat or extremely likely to vote for a socialist candidate.
A poll by the YouGov-Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation found that 44 percent of Generation X, 33 percent of baby boomers, and 33 percent of the silent generation also said they were somewhat or extremely likely to vote for a socialist candidate.
The poll also found that 50 percent of millennials and 51 percent of Generation Z have a somewhat or very unfavorable view of capitalism. That number is up between eight and six percentage points, respectively, from last year.
Overall, however, Americans are more hesitant to vote for a “democratic socialist” than they were in 2018. The new poll revealed that 53 percent said they would “never” or were “hesitant” to vote for a candidate who identified as a democratic socialist, up from 47 percent in 2018.
Voters’ view of capitalism is still more favorable than other economic systems, holding at 61 percent since 2018, the poll found.
