Police warn of counterfeit money

DownloadThese counterfeit bills are circulating in Moscow and Pullman.

Police are warning local businesses to look out for counterfeit bills circulating around the community.

A counterfeit $20 bill with Chinese writing on the front and back was reported Monday afternoon at Sunset Mart on Bishop Boulevard in Pullman.

PPD Cmdr. Chris Tennant said he does not believe it is a widespread issue, but he recalled there were about six cases of counterfeit money reported this past fall.

He advised employees to call the police if they come across counterfeit cash.

He said it helps to identify the customer, but he warned that the customer could be a victim of the counterfeit bill as well.

He said most fake bills are easily identifiable if an employee takes the time to look at them.
