Moscow’s Donal Wilkinson writes the following in a letter to the editor of the Moscow-Pullman Daily News:
Donald Trump got elected on a platform of denying refugees access to our country. This fear-based stereotype has no basis in reality.
In the past 15 years, 50 people have been killed by Muslims in this country. In the same time period, 225,000 people were killed by non-Muslims. Are refugees something we really need to worry about?
Wilkinson has a short memory. How about:
- The 3,000 that died on 9/11?
- The 49 killed in Orlando?
- The 14 killed in San Bernandino?
- The 13 killed at Fort Hood?
Those are the big ones off the top of my head.
Studies show that between 5 – 25% of Muslims in America believe that violence in defense of Islam is justified. That’s not very many in a minority population. But it’s enough to be concerned about.
