From Eye on Boise:
James Piotrowski, the Democrat who’s challenging Idaho GOP 1st District Rep. Raul Labrador, sent out a news release today calling on Labrador to clarify how he can support presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump after Trump’s comments about a federal judge and the judge’s Mexican heritage. Labrador hasn’t responded to multiple requests for his comments on the issue today and yesterday.
Both Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo and 2nd District Rep. Mike Simpson have decried Trump’s comments; Sen. Jim Risch declined to address the matter, saying he won’t comment on Trump.
“To continue to say he will support Trump even after Trump admitted that he thinks people of ‘Mexican heritage’ cannot be trusted, defies reason, justice and good sense,” Piotrowski said. “Mr. Labrador must be for tolerance and supportive of Mexican-Americans and other ethnic groups, or, he can continue to support the hateful, racist attitudes of Donald Trump – he can’t have it both ways.”
Piotrowski is a labor attorney from Boise; Labrador is an immigration and criminal defense attorney who’s seeking a fourth term in the U.S. House.
