Jeep Catches Fire, Starts Fire in Lewiston

LEWISTON – The Idaho State Police and Nez Perce County fire crews responded to a vehicle fire northbound on US95 near milepost 305 (south of Lewiston, not far from where US95 and Highway 12 meet) early this afternoon. A motor home was towing a 2013 Jeep when the Jeep lost its front drive line, causing sparks. The Jeep then started on fire and became fully engulfed. The fire then spread to the hillside north of the highway and is still active. Nobody was injured during the initial incident. Power has been turned off to many in the area north of the highway and there is not yet an estimate when power will be restored. Drivers are advised to use caution when traveling northbound on US95 from the Spaulding bridge area to milepost 305 as the highway is reduced to one lane. Nez Perce County fire and other fire agencies are still on scene fighting the fire.
