NASA on Sunday posted a striking picture of our Sun exhibiting what looked like a giant Halloween-style Jack-o’-lantern face.
The space agency said that “active regions on the Sun” created the notable pattern on the celestial body. The photograph was taken on October 8, 2014 using an ultraviolet light filter.
On its website NASA said that the features were “markers of an intense and complex set of magnetic fields hovering in the sun’s atmosphere.”
