Here’s a novel idea: give employees something they want that is affordable, contra Obamacare.
General Motors has teamed up with Detroit’s Henry Ford Health System on a direct health plan for employees. GM’s Detroit-area non-union workers will have access to the program, which can save them up to $900 a year compared to the current cheapest offering. GM will reward Henry Ford with extra payments if it meets goals for cost, quality and workforce health. Other companies such as Walmart, Disney and Intel have made similar deals, which deviate from traditional plans in which companies work through insurers.
