Chart of the Day(above) shows the combined crude oil output in America’s Big Three oil fields — the Bakken in North Dakota, the Eagle Ford in south-central Texas, and the Permian Basin in west Texas — based on EIA’s latest “Drilling Productivity Report” released today with production forecasts through next month. In January, the Big Three’s combined daily output will reach a new record high of 6.7 million barrels with the Permian contributing 3.8M bpd, followed by the Bakken with 1.46M and Eagle Ford at 1.43M bpd. To put that amount of oil in perspective, the production in the Big Three at 6.7M bpd is about one-third more than Canada’s daily oil production of about 5 million barrels, and more than half (57%) of America’s total oil output of about 11.7 million bpd.
