Who is going to pay $8,500 out of pocket to attend a government school?
A post office box won’t be enough for Idaho students to go to school in Clarkston anymore, beginning with the 2017-18 school year.
Next fall, students will be required to provide a physical address when they register for school in Clarkston, and if that address is in Idaho they’ll need to pay tuition of about $8,500 per year.
The school district’s policy previously allowed students to list a post office box rather than a residence when registering, leading to accusations by some Clarkston residents that Lewiston students were illegally attending Clarkston schools.
The new requirement is one of several policy updates approved by the Clarkston School Board in the fall.
“The physical address piece is important, district-wise,” Superintendent Tim Winter said. “Just so we know we’ve got Clarkston residents attending Clarkston schools.”
