Calif. professor placed on leave for ‘Trump must hang’ tweet
A California history professor has been placed on leave for tweeting that President Trump “must hang.” Lars Maischak is on paid leave from his role as a lecturer and researcher at Fresno State University and will spend the rest of the spring semester off-campus, the school announced Tuesday, as first reported by The Washington Post.

“To save American democracy, Trump must hang. The sooner and the higher, the better. #TheResistance #DeathToFascism,” Maischak tweeted in February to his then-28 followers.
The tweet went unnoticed until Breitbart News surfaced it in a story last week.
Maischak’s Twitter account has since been deleted.
The professor told the Fresno Bee his tweets “felt cathartic at the time to write them down.”
“With 28 followers on Twitter at the time, I never expected them to be read by anyone but a close circle of acquaintances who would know to place them in their context,” he said.
“To treat Twitter as of no more consequence than a journal was a poor decision.”
