Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez believes today’s young people are surpassing previous generations. She made the bold claims while live streaming on Instagram Tuesday night, saying she believed young people are more informed and dynamic than their predecessors.

The freshman lawmaker went on to insist Millennials and Generation Z took the time to actually read and understand the world’s history. The New York representative’s latest remarks overlook the turbulent 1960’s, which was marked with political protests over the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement and many more.

AOC on Instagram live: “Young people are more informed and dynamic than their predecessors… they actually take time to read and understand our [world] history.” Um, what? https://t.co/hk1ZHpUSOv

Ocasio-Cortez’s remarks come despite several studies that have indicated the lack of world history knowledge among Millennials. For example, research by the ‘Conference on Jewish Material Against Germany’ revealed that 2/3 of Millennials were not familiar with Auschwitz, while nearly a quarter of them were unsure of what the Holocaust was.
