When US soldiers arrived at Dachau concentration camp on April 29, 1945, they found hundreds of corpses, emaciated, traumatized and sick prisoners. For this photo, the soldiers staged cheering, relatively healthy looking prisoners – in truth, very few of them were even able to stay on their feet. 40,000 people died in Dachau between 1933 and 1945.
