They are all about social justice when and where it costs them nothing.
Consider the irony of that.
Vice President Mike Pence is accusing the NBA of “acting like a wholly owned subsidiary” of China. Pence made the remarks during his Thursday policy address in Washington D.C., ahead of a new round of trade talks.
“Some of the NBA’s biggest players and owners, who routinely exercise their freedom to criticize this country, lose their voices when it comes to the freedom and rights of other peoples,” said Pence. “(By) siding with the Chinese Communist Party and silencing free speech, the NBA is acting like a wholly owned subsidiary of the authoritarian regime.”
The vice president also blasted Nike for appeasing China after the Houston Rockets general manager’s controversial tweet called for audiences to support Hong Kong’s fight for democracy.
“Nike promotes itself as a so-called social justice champion, but when it comes to Hong Kong, it prefers checking its social conscience at the door,” stated Pence. “Nike stores in China actually removed their Houston Rockets merchandise from their shelves to join the Chinese government in protest against the Rockets general manager’s seven word tweet.”
