A Moscow tech company has announced plans to build a new 70,000 square foot, 4 story headquarters on the North end of downtown. EMSI announced plans on Friday for its new headquarters building to be constructed where St. John Hardware is currently located on Jackson and A Streets.
The new building on a roughly 4 acre campus will be able to house over 500 employees. EMSI moved to its current location on Jackson just South of downtown in 2014. At that time the data software company had 92 employees. EMSI now has over 200 people with most of them working in Moscow. The new headquarters will allow EMSI to continue to grow its team of software developers, engineers, data scientists, economists and sales representatives.
Idaho Governor Brad Little issued a statement on Friday applauding the company’s announcement. The governor stated, “Idaho is so proud of the employees and leaders at EMIS for their continued growth and contributions to Idaho and the Moscow community. EMSI is a true Idaho success story and I appreciate them for the role they play in promoting economic development in Idaho.”
EMSI collects, calculates and analyzes labor market data for customers around the world. Their parent company is a nonprofit public firm called Strada Education Network based in Indianapolis. EMSI began as a consulting firm in 1987 before the company started designing software in the early 90’s.
The company hopes to break ground on their new headquarters in October with completion expected in 2020.
St. John Hardware is looking to relocate across the state line to Washington. The company has applied for a conditional use permit from Whitman County to operate on a 10 acre site near the border on the North side of the Moscow Pullman Highway. The proposed 30,000 square foot retail ag sales business would sit where a Southern Idaho firm called Hawkins Companies first planned to build a shopping center 15 years ago. That land is now owned by Sand Road Bucklers LLC.
