This doesn’t cover the $1million hole from UI Athletics.
And future students need to ask themselves: is this cost of education worth it?
The University of Idaho is seeking a nearly 6% increase in tuition and fees for next year. UI administrators will ask the Idaho State Board of Education on Wednesday to increase tuition and fees by 5.6% for the 2019-20 academic year.
If approved it would increase UI tuition and fees by 440 dollars to about 8,300 dollars next year for in-state undergraduates. The request includes a proposal to double the student fee to help pay for the new campus arena to 60 dollars annually. Revenue from the yet to be approved student fee increase is already in the financing package for the Idaho Central Credit Union Arena that was approved by the board last month.
The UI’s requested tuition hikes have been deemed too expensive by the board for the last 3 years. Last year the UI asked for a 6% increase and received a 5% hike. If this request is approved it would continue to make the UI the most expensive public higher education institution in Idaho.
Wednesday’s board meeting starts at 11:00 in the Pitman Center at the UI.
