Oakland Catholic diocese names 45 priests accused of sexual abuse

Real contrition happens without needing to get caught and covering up  homosexual pederasty in the priesthood for 70+ years.

This was known and originally publicized back in 2004, but the details had been known for decades.

  • During the period from 1950 to 2002, a total of 10,667 individuals had made allegations of child sexual abuse.
  • Of the abused, 81% were male, and 19% were female, 22% were younger than age 11, 51% were between the ages of 11 and 14, and 27% were between the ages of 15 and 17 years when first abused.
  • Within the youngest age group, 64% of abused children were male, while within the older age groups, 85% were male.
  • 2,411 of the priests had a single allegation made against them, while 149 priests had 10 or more allegations made against them.

OAKLAND, Calif. – In a move aimed at reassuring parishioners amid renewed scrutiny of the Roman Catholic Church, the Diocese of Oakland named 45 priests Monday who had been credibly accused over the years of sexually abusing children within its bounds.

The Oakland diocese, which spans Alameda and Contra Costa counties, is the second in the Bay Area to take the extraordinary step, following a similar move by the Diocese of San Jose in October. Dioceses in Stockton and San Diego also have publicly named accused priests, and the Archdiocese of San Francisco, which once encompassed Oakland and San Jose, is considering doing so as well.

Bishop Michael Barber called the release an “Act of Contrition” in a Monday letter to parishioners.

More like an “act of getting caught.”
