Newly minted progressive darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is proposing a 70% tax on the wealthy to pay for her sweeping “Green New Deal,” she told Anderson Cooper in an interview that’s set to air Sunday.

As previously reportedthe “Green New Deal” is a radical government expansion initiative promoted by AOC which aims to eliminate all carbon emissions within 12 years and “promote economic and environmental justice and equality.”

Its promises include, among many others, vows to “mitigate deeply entrenched racial, regional and gender-based inequalities in income and wealth (including, without limitation, ensuring that federal and other investment will be equitably distributed to historically impoverished, low income, deindustrialized or other marginalized communities in such a way that builds wealth and ownership at the community level),” and provide “basic income programs, universal health care programs and any others as the select committee may deem appropriate.”

To pay for this extremely expensive agenda, AOC told Cooper “There’s an element where, yeah, people are going to have to start paying their fair share in taxes,” and said it would “require a lot of rapid change that we don’t even conceive as possible right now.”

Americans for Tax Reform noted that the plan would create a top income tax rate of 82.7% for New York residents.

When Cooper called her agenda “radical,” she replied, invoking Abraham Lincoln and FDR, “I think that it only has ever been radicals that have changed this country. If that’s what radical means, call me a radical.”
