12/22/2018 — A biological male who now identifies as a transgender woman named Christina Ginther has been awarded $20,000 by a jury after being pulled from an all-female football team in the all-female Independent Women’s Football League once the team’s owner was informed that he is a biological male, the Star Tribune reports.

Members of Ginther’s team, suspecting him to be a biological male, discovered one of his social media accounts documenting his “transition” and affirming their suspicions. The league has an eligibility policy requiring players to certify that they are and always have been legally and medically female.

The Dakota County jury found that the team and the league “discriminated” against Ginther because he identifies as transgender, which they have decided is a violation of the Minnesota Human Rights Act.

Ginther, who is 46 and has lived as a male all his life until just three years ago, is also a marathon runner and second-degree black belt. He was awarded $10,000 for emotional distress and $10,000 in punitive damages.
