Uber’s fight over worker status is headed to the UK Supreme Court

It won’t matter for much longer. Uber’s goal is to get rid of all drivers and have self-driving cars for their fleet.

Given that labor is the #1 expense in an Uber ride, that should lower the costs of rides significantly.

It may even be to the point where it’s cheaper not to own a car (and pay for insurance, parking, gas, maintenance, etc).

I know people in Los Angeles who are already car-free and using Uber for all their transportation needs.

Uber’s fight over worker status is headed to the UK Supreme Court

Things haven’t been going Uber’s way to date. In addition to this most recent loss, it unsuccessfully challenged the case at the Employment Appeal Tribunal in November 2017. The UK government has also launched a Good Work Plan that would ensure low-wage workers have access to basic benefits, and it’s investigating whether or not gig economy companies like Uber are subject to that kind of plan.
