The typical US firm doesn’t earn a profit until the second week of December, and for retailers it’s at the end of the month

According to this database at NYU Stern for more than 7,000 US firms in 94 industries, the median profit margin (net income/sales) for American companies was 6.0% when NYU updated its database earlier this year in January 2018. Note that the general public think the average company makes a36% profit margin, which is 6X higher than reality.
