A Moscow environmental group has once again filed suit to halt the long planned for improvements to US Highway 95 South of town. The Paradise Ridge Defense Coalition filed a legal complaint in federal court late last week against the Idaho Transportation Department and the Federal Highway Administration. ITD earlier this year announced that after years of conducting a full environmental assessment and public comment the agency would move ahead with realigning and expanding the highway over Reisenauer Hill. The new route approved by the feds is further up Paradise Ridge to the East. The Moscow environmental group is claiming that a new route further down the hill to the West would lessen the project’s impact on the native palouse prairie. The environmentalists first halted this project with a lawsuit back in 2003. ITD has been planning to start building the new 6 mile section of highway South of Moscow next year with completion in 2019.
