GOP lawmakers may add a provision to repeal a portion of Obamacare through the newly unveiled tax reform bill.
During an interview on Sunday, House Speaker Paul Ryan said Congress could use the legislation to repeal Obamacare’s individual mandate.
Officials say repealing the mandate could save over $400 billion over the next 10 years, because fewer insured people means the government would spend less in subsidies.
Republicans say the money saved could go towards tax reform if the legislation passes.
President Trump is hopeful the House will pass the bill by Thanksgiving as lawmakers debate and vote on changes ahead of Monday’s markup.
