NIMBY stands for Not In My Back Yard
When I moved to Moscow back in 2001, one of the most perplexing things driving around was that a main street like 3rd didn’t go through to Mountain View. It totally makes no sense. And it forces all of the East-West traffic onto a few other streets: F, D, B, 6th, 7th. Forcing traffic onto F, D, and B is particularly problematic since that straddles Moscow Middle School and the fields, pushing all the traffic to where the kids are.
But here’s the NIMBY response in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News:
The project has upset many nearby residents, who worry about increased traffic, safety concerns and property values decreasing, but MacDonald said providing another east-west route through Moscow is necessary, especially as the east side of town continues to grow.
