The City of Moscow has a new budget and a new alcohol policy for University of Idaho football tailgate parties.  Councilors approved a balanced, $79.8 million budget for fiscal year 2018 Monday night. Included was a resolution for a $595,000 3rd Street bridge project that will allow vehicle and pedestrian traffic over Paradise Creek. Nearby residents protested, claiming the bridge connection would increase traffic and drive down their property values. Others shared safety concerns for students walking to school. Ultimately council members approved funding for the bridge which has been proposed for over a decade.

Moscow City Council also approved an amendment allowing alcohol at UI home football tailgate parties. Council voted unanimously to approve the open container amendments. Last year the Idaho State Board of Education upheld its prohibition on alcohol at UI tailgates.  The move came after the board realized the university was skirting the regents’ policy with some legal maneuvering making Kibbie Dome lots “private property” on game days.  The board this week will consider a policy change similar to the one passed by council.  If approved it would formally allow tailgaters to indulge outside Vandal football games.
