America’s Summer Labor Shortage

In Germany, they have welfare. But you must work to earn a welfare check. You don’t get to sit on your butt and have the working Germans pay for your laziness.

Not so in the US.

In Maine, according to Department of Health and Human Services data, 9,478 able-bodied adults without dependents received SNAP benefits on Dec. 1. That number dropped to 2,530 on April 1. About a 75% decrease in food stamps once a work requirement was added. In addition, many of these approximately 7,000 single workers got jobs and are above the poverty line now. Hard to argue with these kind of stats – can you imagine a 75% reduction in most of the welfare programs nationwide?
