An Ohio man pleaded guilty to terrorism charges as well as trying to murder a federal judge.
Yahya Farooq Mohammad, 39, traveled to Yemen to deliver $22,000, equipment and other assistance to Anwar Al-Awlaki, an American who was then head of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
In addition to pleading guilty to conspiring to provide and conceal material support to terrorists, Mohammad also admitted to soliciting an undercover FBI employee who was posing as a hitman to kidnap and murder U.S. District Judge Jack Zouhary.
Zouhary was assigned as the judge in his case. Mohammad arranged the hit from jail and was willing to pay $15,000 to have the operation carried out.
Originally from India, Mohammad came to the U.S. as an engineering student at Ohio State University between 2002 and 2004. He married a U.S. citizen in 2008.
He was charged in the case with three other defendants – his brother, Ibrahim, Asif Ahmed Salim and Sultane Room Salim. All were indicted by a federal grand jury close to two years ago. The other defendants pleaded not guilty.
