Property tax assessments in Latah County up significantly this year

Property tax assessments in Latah County are increasing significantly this year.  County Assessor Pat Vaughan says that many property owners will see assessments increase 20%.  The hikes are driven by an active local real estate market which is causing increased property values.

Moscow and Genesee property owners will generally see their tax assessments increase the most, near 20%.  The average home price in Moscow has reached about a quarter million dollars while in Genesee it’s around 180,000 dollars.  Deary home tax assessments are increasing about 15% while assessments on homes in Kendrick and rural residences are up around 10%.  Parcels in Potlatch were visited by assessors this year for individual rate adjustments.

Vaughan notes that the property tax bills will not increase at the same rate as the assessments.  That’s because higher valuations broaden the tax base which leads to individual levy rate increases less than the assessment hikes.  The Latah County Assessor’s office appraises all property annually.  The new tax assessments will be mailed out next month.
