Foolish Millennials Embrace Socialism

I traveled in Eastern Europe, behind the Iron Curtain, during the 1970s. I saw first hand the equality that socialism brought: everyone was equally poor.

The majority of millennials would prefer to live in a socialist, communist or fascist nation rather than a capitalistic one, according to a new poll…. The most popular socioeconomic order was socialism, with 44 percent support. Communism and fascism received 7 percent support each.” (Washington Times). Were socialism, communism, and fascism defined and their history described? I suspect they weren’t. For many millennials, socialism probably means “to be social”; it’s related to “social media.” Communism is about being in a community. Remember, Barack Obama was a “community organizer.” Community sounds a lot like Communism.

Communism and socialism are all about “sharing.”

“Brittany Griebling, a bubbly 35-year-old social worker, says socialism is ‘people making choices for themselves.’ No, Socialism is some people using the power and force of government to make choices for everyone using money taken from some people and given to other people.

Jeremy Low contends, “We’re in an age where we can easily provide for everyone on the planet.” Who are the “we” in this scenario? Socialism is forced compliance. If Brittany and Low decide to travel the world or engage in a year-long study of art, “we” should be forced to pay for their aspirations. (PhillyMag)
