Critical fire conditions, poor air quality forecasted this week

That’s a 30°F difference in high temperatures over one day!

For Moscow and the Palouse:

The National Weather Service is anticipating critical fire weather conditions today and Friday, in response to an excessive heat warning issued for the Palouse.

The NWS is forecasting hot temperatures followed by increasing winds Friday afternoon which may lead to rapid fire growth of new or existing wildfires. Winds are expected to increase into Friday night with the passage of a strong cold front. A chance of thunderstorms is also possible, which could lead to new fire starts and gusty winds.

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality is forecasting moderate air quality Thursday and Friday on the Palouse, which means sensitive groups should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion outside.

The NWS calls for a high of 103 degrees today and a low of 64 degrees. Friday’s forecast calls for a high of 98 and a low of 57. The heat is expected to subside Saturday to a high of 80 and a low of 50.
