It's not a matter of just cause. You can have a teacher who cannot or does not teach for 30 years. And that is not just cause enough to fire them.

In any other job situation, not being able to do one's job is sufficent cause for having them move on. But not in the educational-industrial complex.

Sure they could turn Social Security into Welfare. I doubt that will happen. Anyway, for 2010 there are no income limits for converting a 401k-rollover-IRA over to a Roth IRA. You'd need to pay the taxes involved in this transaction, but once in a Roth IRA withdrawals for principal are tax free as long as the Roth IRA has been opened for 5 years and withdrawals on the gains are tax free if the owner is at least age 59 1/2. Run the calculation to see if this makes sense or consult with a financial professional. Cheers.

You fail to understand the simple distinction between a government job (paid for by the taxpayers with a gun to their head) and a private job where someone can choose to support or not.

There is no reason in the world that the superintendent of an Idaho government school should be paid as much as the govenor of the state. And that's my tax money, still with a gun to my head, paying for that.

If the MSD trustees when door-to-door in Moscow and asked everyone to put money in the can for Donicht's $120,000+ salary, you can bet that they would come up with less than $10,000.

Holy cow! Teachers are making more than triple the median income? a good dose of socialism could fix that in a heartbeat such that everyone would be making exactly the same salary.

Yes, because she or her union or both negotiated a high salary. Is there some reason why you're unable to answer my question above? I'd like to hear your first hand experience of reverse negotiating yourself into less pay in order to save your employer some costs or else the reason why you've never attempted this. You're no fan of high wages and even minimum wage is too high in your book, so logically you should be driving for your own low wage.

Dale - champion of lower wages. Have you ever walked into your supervisor's office, announced that your salary was too high, and requested a steep cut in pay? If not, why not? Such action would have saved your employer money and may have been considered a good return on their investment.

2:30 pm buffet luncheon

4:00 pm tea and crumpets

5:30 pm back to the faculty lounge: daily griping about stingy citizens towards the enlighten academy

7:00 pm preparation for dinner

8:30 pm dinner served by house staff

10:00 pm fine cigars

11:30 retire for the day

Maybe they're just not as curious as the youth of the past. Or have the courage to protest. Of course the '60's protesters had agitators who organized the protests and worked up the youth.

I started that blog when our own marketing people couldn't do an effective (my opinion). -- A previous UI president came back from an SBOE meeting and couldn't justify why we should get more money per student than BSU.

UI graduates more than BSU and ISU and possibly LCSC combined. Our graduation rates are twice that of the other schools. UI grads also earn higher starting salaries and default on students at half the rate of the other Idaho U's and college. BSU's problem is that most of their FTE's never progress beyond 100-level course work. UI's costs are higher per student as students progress into small enrollment courses at the 300-500 level.

Yes, the experiences of the two slave populations was quite different, thus the difference in the outcome.

One other point. I don't know exactly where Robertson is coming from in his observation about Haiti (which does have a very dark history), but, this does make me think of the judgment on Sodom, Gomorrah, Jerusalem, Pompeii, Port Royal, and other wicked cities. When evil befalls a city, has not the Lord done it?

I also remember an east coast professor I know discussing the difference between the experience of the slaves in the South US and the slaves in Haiti. There are historical reasons that the Haitians went down the path that they did.

Similar story for me. I attended JC (although skipped the AS degree) and then transferred to a private University. I left after one quarter because the profs only showed up for lecture half the time, talked mainly about their research, and at the end of class said 'read chapters 4-8' in the text. At least their subs actually lectured on the subject material. When I transferred to UI, the best prof I had there (who also gave me a failing grade) had an MS degree and no plans to pursue a Phd, lectured on the subject topics, and tested us on both lecture and text book material.
