You stated it best, 'government workers now have better pay and benefits than the corresponding private sector employee.' Thus, in a country where more people are on the government dole than are working in the private sector, you would have the majority workers employed by the government with better pay and better benefits and as an added bonus are getting every Flag Day, Columbus Day, etc. off as paid holidays. And your prediction on this hyperbole scenario that will never be achieved is what...that the private sector can't compete because paying decent salaries and providing good benefits eats into the bottom line of the all important business entity?

Funny how that works. If the mother is going thru the unwanted pregnancy, then the unborn child is too.

Kind of hard to have it just one-sided -- though it makes for simplistic arguments and conclusions.

The government does not maximize profits. It takes tax money from the citizens and spends it. There is no creation of wealth from the government.

So my question remains: what happens in a country where more people are on the government dole than are working in the private sector?

What a touching story and he gets to mention his uncle. But the real message is the attack on our nasty, profit happy oil company, Exxon Mobile--the company that probably supplies the fuel for his private jet trips. I'm sick of these elites trying to tear down all that is good with our country in the name of some make believe crisis designed to scare the folks into giving up freedom for the security (read control) that a bigger government will bring.

Hmmm, It's starting to sound like the Higher Education industry is becoming too big to fail. It would be nice if students, stopped shopping for colleges based on reputation, and started shopping on the basis of results.

The trend in all education, seems to be task training as opposed to mind training. I've maintained for years that if you can read a manual, you can learn how to do something. The keys are Reading, Writing (as opposed to word processing) and Arithmetic. With that core - everything from Beowulf to Ulysses; Bookkeeping to Physics is wide open.

You tell me Dale since you seem to have a crystal ball into hyperbole. I personally don't really give a hoot whether I work in the public sector, the private sector, a union job, or a non-union job. Like most corporations, I'm after maximizing my profits. So as US corporations beholden to stockholders continue to offshore jobs to India and China all in the name of adding to the bottom line, you get this scenario where best paid, highest benefit jobs are in the government. No surprise there. Not everyone wants to work a minimum wage job for billionaire owners. You might be an exception.

What happens to a country when the best paid, highest benefit positions are a) in the government and b) these are the jobs that are increasing.

It'll be 1994 all over again and thank God. The GOP will sweep into Congress in November and balance out the system with a healthy split of power. Barack Obama will then handily win reelection in 2012. It's amazing to me that neither party can figure out how to do the right thing (govern to the center) once they have consolidated power. Instead they just try to push their own cockamamie agendas until things fall apart and they're voted out.

Unfortunately J Edger Hoover perpetrated the idea that the JBS was a subversive organization and 15 years after never happened. He was dead right on with all of his points and he sounds like a good libertarian WHIG, one who opposes royal tyranny in all forms of government.

When will the sheeple wake up and fight against tyranny in all forms, starting with the local city planning and zoning board all the way up to the 1/2 white house?

WSJ has an article today on this subject: "L.A. Confidential: Seeking Reasons for Autism's Rise".

Lead in sentence: "Why is a child born in northwest Los Angeles four times as likely to be diagnosed with autism as a child born elsewhere in California."

Two California based studies suggest "that local environmental or social factors are driving the high autism-diagnosis rates".

It's been going on for two years. Gold should be moving in an opposite direction as the stock market but alas it has moved in the same direction. The US Governement does this to make Gold look bad to investers. This allows them to confiscate it just like in the 30's.... Way to go Fed.
