Idaho tax burden 6th lowest in nation
Details from Spokesman Review Betsy Russell's blog An Eye on Boise.
Idaho's overall tax burden, per capita, is the sixth-lowest in the country and the lowest among western states, the Idaho Tax Commission says. That's the result of its latest tax burden study, which showed significant impact from the 2006 legislation that lowered Idaho's property tax, although it also increased the state's sales tax. The study showed that Idaho's tax burden is 29.5 percent below the national average, the lowest it's been compared to the national average since similar studies started 22 years ago.
Funny, that’s not what The Tax Foundation reports.
The Tax Foundation is a nonpartisan tax research group based in Washington, D.C., that has been tracking federal, state, and local tax spending since 1937.
The Tax Foundation looks not just at sales taxes, but also at property taxes, state income taxes, etc. They take into account all of the taxes that state residents pay.
Back on 31 July, The Tax Foundation ranked Idaho 18th in the nation based on everything we pay. This data is up to date as of 30 June 2009.
The Idaho Tax Commission is about 2.5 years behind the times in this report.
