Chaney biggest spender in Moscow elections: Mayor tops race with $11,624 raised; top two council race spenders failed to win a seat

Back on 29 Oct, Kathy Beerman wrote the following Letter to the Editor of the Moscow-Pullman Daily News:

I think how an individual seeking office conducts their campaign is a fairly good indication as to how they will approach their responsibilities as an elected official.

Two issues have caught my attention. First, I am struck by the large number and the enormous size of the "Weber for Mayor" signs along our city business zones. It makes me wonder who is paying for these signs and why.

Campaign signs are one thing, but these signs represent someone who clearly does not care about reckless, wasteful spending. I can't imagine the cost of these huge, multi-color printed signs.

Thank you, Nancy Chaney.

Looks like the reckless and wasteful spending was by her Nancy Chaney. As reported in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News.

Moscow Mayor Nancy Chaney not only won re-election this November, she won the money race as well.

Mayoral and City Council candidates were required to disclose their last round of campaign financial reports Friday, 30 days after the election.

Chaney won the election by just 40 votes over Council President John Weber but raised $4,000 more with $11,624 to Weber's $7,644. Chaney received several large private contributions of $500 and one of $1,000 during the previous reporting deadline seven days prior to the election, but only received smaller contributions during the final days leading up the to the vote.

Weber also mostly received smaller contributions, except for one $1,000 donation from an individual contributor.
