Factual awareness
The following letter to the editor appeared in today’s Moscow-Pullman Daily News:
Factual awareness
Theoretically, any person could contract an HIV infection, just as theoretically any person could be struck by lightning. But the probability that either member of a consistently sexually monogamous heterosexual male-female pair might contract HIV is minimal to near the vanishing point.
One of the most prevalent primarily sexually transmitted diseases extant is AIDS, and for good reason. The rampantly promiscuous use of the human anal orifice as an organ of sexual intercourse, for which any doctor of anatomy and disease transmission can tell you it was neither designed nor intended, is one of the principal mechanisms of HIV transmission. The lethal consequences of this perverse practice are amplified many-fold by orgiastic sexual encounters with multiple unknown partners. Campaigns for enhancing AIDS awareness (and of such we have a plethora) that do not acknowledge these central facts are a farcical waste of time.
