Crews Ready to Break Ground on Pullman Walmart Supercenter
As reported in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News.
After about four years of debate and legal wrangling, crews are ready to break ground on the site of the Walmart Supercenter in Pullman.
Pullman Public Works Director Mark Workman said no specific day is decided on, but workers could start excavation work today or Friday.
"They don't have a firm date," Workman said, "but they (were) working hard (Wednesday) to get all the documents signed that need to be signed for the construction plan approval."
Construction on Walmart's 24.7-acre site off Bishop Boulevard was stalled for years due to a lawsuit from the Pullman Alliance for Responsible Development. Members of PARD voted to stop their suit in June 2008.
A super center could open in Pullman within 10-12 months of ground breaking said Karianne Fallow, a Walmart spokesperson. The Pullman Walmart will hire between 300-350 employees, with recruitment starting three to four months before the grand opening.
