MOSCOW MAYOR: Chaney barely wins close race
I want to make some comments on this.
As reported in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News.
Moscow Mayor Nancy Chaney retained her seat by a mere 40 votes Tuesday.
Chaney received 2,095 votes, or 50 percent, and challenger John Weber received 2,055 votes, or 49 percent.
County Auditor Susan Petersen confirmed the final unofficial vote count late Tuesday night.
Moments after learning of her win, Chaney said she was pleased to be ahead in the race for most of the night, and she wasn't anticipating such a close count.
"I can appreciate that we have a city to continue to guide into a really bright future, and I'm looking forward to leading the city over the next four years," she said.
Let’s hope that Chaney doesn’t take this 40–vote win as a “mandate” for her. That would be a George Bush type of error for her to make.
Chaney and Weber differed primarily over issues of city growth.
This has been my contention all along: Weber is Chaney-lite. That’s why I wouldn’t vote for either of them.
Weber said during the race he believed he was in a better position to advocate for the city's economic interests than Chaney.
Chaney resisted being characterized as "anti-business," and countered Weber by touting the success of projects like the Alturas Business Park.
Yea, Chaney’s not anti-business. Just look at all the businesses that have left/been turned down under her regime.
