AG's office: Shred campaign flier

Betsy Z. Russell works as staff writer for The Spokesman-Review. In that position, Russell covers Idaho news from our bureau in BoiseDetails from Spokesman Review Betsy Russell's blog An Eye on Boise.

The Idaho Attorney General's office is recommending that anyone who got a campaign flier showing the Social Security numbers of a congressman and his wife shred it. “We’d urge ‘em to shred it,” said Deputy Attorney General Brett DeLange, who heads the office’s Consumer Protection Unit. “Don’t just throw it away, shred it.”

The release of a Social Security number doesn’t necessarily bring identity theft, but it could, DeLange said. When people’s Social Security numbers are released, he recommends they place a freeze on their credit with the three credit reporting agencies; that will prevent anyone from opening new accounts in their name without their direct permission, which is the main way identity thieves use such numbers for purposes of theft. The Consumer Protection Unit offers extensive information, including an identity theft manual and how to contact credit reporting agencies, on its Web site here.

The gift of Idaho Dems that keeps on giving…

Boy Sent Home From School For Dressing As Jesus: Eighth Grader Told His Halloween Costume Was Offensive, Distracting

But if he had dressed up as the devil, it would have been OK.

From WCBSTV:

A Paramus middle school student was sent home Friday after he came to school dressed up as Jesus for Halloween.

For a few hours, Alex Woinski was the messiah of West Brook Middle School, but like the real Jesus, Woinski was condemned, so to speak.

"Sort of like a new remake of what supposedly happened," Woinski told CBS 2.

Decked out in sandals, a robe, fake beard and thorns, the 13-year-old joined 500 other students at his school's Halloween celebration, and on this day, he was the chosen one - to go home.

"It was offensive to some students," Woinski said, when asked what school officials told him the reason for being sent home was.

Woinski says he wore the costume because friends say his long hair makes him a Jesus lookalike, and were not offended by his costume.

The school says thes costume was a disruption and denies its religious nature had anything to do with it.

"I don't think I overreacted," Principal Joan Broe told CBS 2.

Broe said too many students were drawn to the costume, and that was reason enough.

"Children were [asking], where is the boy who is Jesus Christ?" she said. "It was disrupting the education process."

I’m sure Jesus would be disrupting to their education process…

Ayers dedicated book to Sirhan Sirhan: Obama's colleague saw Robert Kennedy's assassin as 'political prisoner'

From World Net Daily:

Bill Ayers, the man with whom Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama worked on Chicago projects, published his own manifesto during his years as an active terrorist and dedicated it to a list of people including Sirhan Sirhan, the assassin of Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy.

According to Fox News, Ayers – the Weather Underground terrorist who bombed the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon, and stated recently he wished he could have done more – used his book, "Prairie Fire," to announce his intention to "attack from the inside" and "disrupt the empire, to incapacitate it, to put pressure on the cracks, to make it hard to carry out its bloody functioning against the people of the world."

Dakota Voice cited a passage from the book:

We are a guerrilla organization. We are communist women and men, underground in the United States for more than four years. We are deeply affected by the historic events of our time in the struggle against U.S. imperialism.

Our intention is to disrupt the empire, to incapacitate it, to put pressure on the cracks, to make it hard to carry out its bloody functioning against the people of the world, to join the world struggle, to attack from the inside.

Our intention is to engage the enemy, to wear away at him, to harass him, to isolate him, to expose every weakness, to pounce, to reveal his vulnerability.

Our intention is to encourage the people, to provoke leaps in confidence and consciousness, to stir the imagination, to popularize power, to agitate, to organize, to join in every way possible the people's day-to-day struggles.

Our intention is to forge an underground, a clandestine political organization engaged in every form of struggle, protected from the eyes and weapons of the state, a base against repression.

Notice to All Employees

Notice to All Employees

As of November 5, 2008, when President Obama is officially elected into office, our company will instill a few new policies which are in keeping with his new, inspiring issues of change and fairness:

  1. All salespeople will be pooling their sales and bonuses into a common pool that will be divided equally between all of you.  This will serve to give those of you who are underachieving a "fair shake."
  2. All low level workers will be pooling their wages, including overtime, into a common pool, dividing it equally amongst yourselves. This will help those who are "too busy for overtime" to reap the rewards from those who have more spare time and can work extra hours.
  3. All top management will now be referred to as "the government."  We will not participate in this "pooling" experience because the law doesn't apply to us.
  4. The "government" will give eloquent speeches to all employees every week, encouraging its workers to continue to work hard "for the good of all."
  5. The employees will be thrilled with these new policies because it's "good to spread the wealth."  Those of you who have underachieved will finally get an opportunity; those of you who have worked hard and had success will feel more "patriotic."
  6. The last few people who were hired should clean out their desks.  Don't feel bad, though, because President Obama will give you free healthcare, free handouts, free oil for heating your home, free foodstamps, and he'll let you stay in your home for as long as you want even if you can't pay your mortgage.  If you appeal directly to our democratic congress, you might even get a free flatscreen TV and a coupon for free haircuts (shouldn't all Americans be entitled to nice looking hair?) !!!

"Selfish" Not to Want to Pay Higher Taxes

This from the man who gave just a little over 0% of his income to charity last year.

And for the Obama acolytes, charity is redistributing wealth at the end of a gun.

From ABC News:

On the stump this week, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has pushed back against Sen. John McCain's description of his tax policies.

"The reason that we want to do this, change our tax code, is not because I have anything against the rich," Obama said in Sarasota, Fla., yesterday. "I love rich people! I want all of you to be rich. Go for it. That’s the American dream, that’s the American way, that’s terrific.

"The point is, though, that -- and it’s not just charity, it’s not just that I want to help the middle class and working people who are trying to get in the middle class -- it’s that when we actually make sure that everybody’s got a shot – when young people can all go to college, when everybody’s got decent health care, when everybody’s got a little more money at the end of the month – then guess what? Everybody starts spending that money, they decide maybe I can afford a new car, maybe I can afford a computer for my child. They can buy the products and services that businesses are selling and everybody is better off. All boats rise. That’s what happened in the 1990s, that’s what we need to restore. And that’s what I’m gonna do as president of the United States of America.

"John McCain and Sarah Palin they call this socialistic," Obama continued. "You know I don’t know when, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness."

Dead People Voting Throughout Florida

From WFTV:

Thousands of dead Floridians are registered to vote and some in Central Florida had ballots cast in their names long after their deaths."That is scary," said Jim Branch.

Branch's mother Marjorie died in 2004 but someone voted for her in 2006. Branch had tried to get his mother removed from the voter rolls.

"It was much easier for me calling Social Security and taking her off not getting any more checks here, than it was that (voter registration)," he said.

County records show James Santiago voted in the 2006 general election. He too, was dead. His wife, Joann, sees this as an open invitation for voter fraud. "I think it leaves it open to sign his name, during an election, especially an important one like this year," said Joann.

Channel Nine discovered 1,636 registered voters in Central Florida are dead.

"This is what makes Supervisors of Elections lose sleep at night," said Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Ann McFall.

McFall said it used to be easy to clear out voter rolls."We had two people who did nothing but cut obituary notices out of the papers," she said. "That's how we found out someone died."

But 2002's Help America Vote act, which made it easier to register to vote, also made it more difficult to remove voters from the rolls. But Orange County Election Supervisor Bill Cowles doesn't worry.

"I think the mechanisms are in place. There's enough checks and balances in place," he said.

Like all the ones he just described?

Doesn’t give me any confidence in the system.

Wilson-Hitchens Debate

There are some videos posted of the current Hitchens/Wilson debate on the east coast.

This is the top-level site:

Here’s quite an admission by Hitchens: Wilson is the real-deal.

CT has an article up about the debate.

Hitchens said he wanted all his enemies destroyed. Wilson countered with qualified agreement, saying that God destroys all his enemies, but doesn't only destroy them in the traditional way, as understood by man, but also destroys his enemies by making them friends.

A few clips, for those who want to watch.

Washington Times kicked off Obama plane for finale

And not just the Washington Times: all of the media that did not endorse Obama.

From The Washington Times:

The Washington Times, which has covered the Barack Obama campaign from the start, was kicked off the Democrat's campaign plane for the final 72 hours of the race.

The Obama campaign informed the newspaper Thursday evening of its decision, which came two days after The Times editorial page endorsed Senator John McCain over Mr. Obama. The Times editorial page runs completely independent of the news department.

"This feels like the journalistic equivalent of redistributing the wealth, we spent hundreds of thousands of dollars covering Senator Obama's campaign, traveling on his plane, and taking our turn in the reporter's pool, only to have our seat given away to someone else in the last days of the campaign," said Washington Times Executive Editor John Solomon.

"I hope the candidate that promises to unite America isn't using a litmus test to determine who gets to cover his campaign."

The Times formally protested the decision, noting that it has one of the top 20 largest newspaper Web sites in the country, distributes its print edition in the key battleground state of Virginia, and has had its stories repeatedly cited by Mr. Obama and other Democrats throughout the campaign.

Spreading the Wealth and Killing the Goose

Larry King:  Concerning spreading the wealth, isn't the graduated income tax spreading the wealth? ....

Senator McCain:  Well, that's spreading the wealth in the respect that we do have a graduated income tax.  That's a far cry from taking from one group of Americans and giving to another.  I mean, that's dramatically different.

—"Larry King Live," October 29, 2008

Gregory V. Helvering over at the American Thinker notes the differences:

John McCain put his finger on an important point:  we currently have an extraordinarily progressive income tax, which requires the wealthy (and the relatively wealthy) to bear virtually the entire burden of the income tax.  Obama wants to spread the wealth not because the wealthy do not currently bear their fair share of supporting the government.  He wants to spread the wealth because he views the wealth itself as unfair.

According to the latest IRS statistics, released this summer, we have an extremely progressive income tax system.  For 2006 (the latest year for which statistics are available), the share of the federal income tax paid by the top 1 percent of tax returns reached an all-time high -- 40% of all federal income taxes.  The top 50% paid 97% of the tax.  The bottom 50% paid only 3% of it.

For progressives, the above IRS statistics simply prove that, under the Bush tax cuts (which were across the board to all taxpayers), the "rich" made more money (since they were allowed to keep more of it and invest it, which produced even more income for them).  The "rich" thus paid more taxes, and bore a greater burden of financing government, but for progressives, the Bush tax cuts have to be rescinded even if they demonstrably shifted more of the tax burden to the rich.

For progressives, the goal is not ultimately to create more tax revenue for the government, but to equalize the income of the citizenry.  So increased taxes from the rich are not a solution if they mean the rich made more money compared to others.  In fact, even if the tax cuts end up making the tax system more progressive, that simply exacerbates the problem:  the "gap" between rich and poor.

Supremes asked to halt Tuesday's vote: Supremes asked to halt Tuesday's vote

Just what we need: the SCOTUS inserting itself into another election.

Would the Obama camp please put this to rest. This is an easy thing to fix.

From World Net Daily:

The U.S. Supreme Court is being asked to help the nation avoid a constitutional crisis by halting Tuesday's election until Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama documents his eligibility to run for the top office in the nation.

Democratic attorney Philip Berg had filed a lawsuit alleging Obama is ineligible to be president because of possible birth in Kenya, but as WND reported, a federal judge dismissed the complaint claiming Berg lacks standing to bring the action.

The 34-page memorandum that accompanied the court order from Judge R. Barclay Surrick concluded ordinary citizens can't sue to ensure that a presidential candidate actually meets the constitutional requirements of the office.

Instead, Surrick said Congress could determine "that citizens, voters, or party members should police the Constitution's eligibility requirements for the Presidency," but that it would take new laws to grant individual citizens that ability.

"Until that time," Surrick says, "voters do not have standing to bring the sort of challenge that Plaintiff attempts to bring."

Berg has maintained that uncertainty about how the U.S. does enforce the requirements of presidency may result in a constitutional crisis should an ineligible candidate win the office.

In a statement today, Berg said he is applying to Justice David Souter for an "Immediate Injunction to Stay the Presidential Election of November 4, 2008."

"I am hopeful that the U.S. Supreme Court will grant the injunction pending a review of this case to avoid a constitutional crisis by insisting that Obama produce certified documentation that he is or is not a "natural born" citizen and if he cannot produce documentation that Obama be removed from the ballot for president," Berg said.

"We must legally prevent Obama, the unqualified candidate, from taking the office of the presidency of the United States," Berg said.

An Acorn Whistleblower Testifies in Court The group's ties to Obama are extensive.

From the Wall Street Journal:

Acorn, the liberal "community organizing" group that claims it will deploy 15,000 get-out-the-vote workers on Election Day, can't stay out of the news.

The FBI is investigating its voter registration efforts in several states, amid allegations that almost a third of the 1.3 million cards it turned in are invalid. And yesterday, a former employee of Acorn testified in a Pennsylvania state court that the group's quality-control efforts were "minimal or nonexistent" and largely window dressing. Anita MonCrief also says that Acorn was given lists of potential donors by several Democratic presidential campaigns, including that of Barack Obama, to troll for contributions.

The Obama campaign denies it "has any ties" to Acorn, but Mr. Obama's ties are extensive. In 1992 he headed a registration effort for Project Vote, an Acorn partner at the time. He did so well that he was made a top trainer for Acorn's Chicago conferences. In 1995, he represented Acorn in a key case upholding the constitutionality of the new Motor Voter Act - the first law passed by the Clinton administration - which created the mandated, nationwide postcard voter registration system that Acorn workers are using to flood election offices with bogus registrations.

Ruling to come on Obama birth case

This seems like both a waste of time and grasping at straws.

I wish that the Obama camp had put this to rest months and months ago.

From the Cincinnati Enquirer:

A Warren County magistrate said he’ll decide tomorrow whether Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has to get proof that Barack Obama was born in the United States.

David M. Neal, a Turtlecreek Township resident who runs a political Web site, filed suit last week, saying state and federal government leaders have failed to verify that Obama was born in Hawaii, instead of Kenya.

The U.S. Constitution requires presidents to be natural-born citizens who are at least 35 years old.

Neal says he’s part of a nationwide grass-roots movement that has questioned Obama’s birthplace and qualification to run for president.

Neal’s complaint asserts that Obama’s Internet site does not disclose the name of the hospital where Obama was born and that an original long version of the birth certificate should be made available before the election.

The controversy has lingered even though various fact-checking groups and journalists have concluded that the Hawaiian birth certificate appears to be authentic.

Neal contends that Obama should be removed from the Ohio ballot if Brunner can’t confirm that Obama was born in the United States.

State Treasurer Ron Crane condemns Democrats' use of Bill and Terry Sali's Social Security numbers

The Idaho Dem Party should be strung up for mailing out Privacy Act information like this to the public.

It really doesn’t get any lower than this.

But as Crane notes: for the Idaho Dems and Minnick supporters, the ends justifies the means.

SaliHeaderFrom Idaho’s First Congressional District Representative, Bill Sali:

BOISE, Idaho - State Treasurer Ron Crane today said the Idaho Democrat Party and congressional candidate Walt Minnick acted maliciously in using Bill and Terry Sali's Social Security numbers in campaign literature mailed across Idaho.

Crane, who holds the annual "Smart Women, Smart Money Conference," said the tactic exposes the Sali family to the very real threat of identity theft and gives criminals a means to access bank accounts, open lines of credit, rent or buy property and commit other crimes against the Salis.

"One of the important sessions at the Smart Women, Smart Money Conference deals with identity theft.  It is extremely dangerous and is becoming more prevalent in today's world among criminals," said Crane. "In one sense I am shocked and outraged that Walt Minnick and the Democrat Party would stoop to this. But, in another sense I recognize it goes along with their liberal ideology that the end justifies the means."

Crane continued, "What the Democrats did will haunt Bill and Terry Sali for the rest of their lives. Bill and Terry's most private information is now available to anyone who received a flier from the Idaho Democrat Party. Someone with a laptop in Paris and moderate hacking skills now has a good chance of obtaining every iota of the Salis' financial history, bank and savings accounts and so much more. It's also alarming that the Idaho Democrat Party does not seem to recognize what a serious breach of basic decency this is. They've offered no apology and tried to blame others for their actions."

Who I'm Voting For

I’ve been asked by quite a few people how I’m planning on voting on Tuesday.

There may be two surprises below: that I’m voting for Vincenti and for Bill Thompson.

Regarding Vincenti: I’d rather have a principled, classical liberal in Boise than a RINO that cannot be reigned in.

Regarding Bill Thompson: he has poured himself unreservedly into the Logos mock trial team over the years. He had nothing personally to gain by doing so (and probably took a lot of heat and heartache from the Intoleristas for so). Yet he did it “for the kids” (in the true meaning of that term).

So here’s my vote:

  • US President: Ron Paul  (write-in)
  • US Senator: Jim Risch (Rep)
  • US Representative (1st District): Bill Sali (Rep)
  • Idaho Legislature, State Senator (District 6): Sheldon Vincenti (Dem)
  • Idaho Legislature, State Representative (District 6A): Tom Trail (Rep)
  • Idaho Legislature, State Representative (District 6B): Bob Hassoldt (Rep)
  • Latah County Commissioner (First District): Jennifer Barrett (Dem)
  • Latah County Commissioner (Second District): Tom Stroschein (Dem)
  • Latah County Sheriff: Wayne Rausch (Rep)
  • Latah County Treasurer: Connie Ferguson (Rep)
  • Latah County Prosecuting Attorney: Bill Thompson (Dem)

A Wasted Vote?

"Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost."

—John Quincy Adams

My friend Jeff M. pointed me towards this article by Chuck Baldwin about why voting for a 3rd party candidate is not a wasted vote.

I don’t want to have to hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils. I will be freely voting my conscience and principles.

When asked why they will not vote for a third party candidate, many people will respond by saying something like, "He cannot win." Or, "I don't want to waste my vote." It is true: America has not elected a third party candidate since 1860. Does that automatically mean, however, that every vote cast for one of the two major party candidates is not a wasted vote? I don't think so.

In the first place, a wasted vote is a vote for someone you know does not represent your own beliefs and principles. A wasted vote is a vote for someone you know will not lead the country in the way it should go. A wasted vote is a vote for the "lesser of two evils." Or, in the case of John McCain and Barack Obama, what we have is a choice between the "evil of two lessers."

Albert Einstein is credited with saying that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result. For years now, Republicans and Democrats have been leading the country in the same basic direction: toward bigger and bigger government; more and more socialism, globalism, corporatism, and foreign interventionism; and the dismantling of constitutional liberties. Yet, voters continue to think that they are voting for "change" when they vote for a Republican or Democrat. This is truly insane!

Take a look at the recent $700 billion Wall Street bailout: both John McCain and Barack Obama endorsed and lobbied for it. Both McCain and Obama will continue to bail out these international banksters on the backs of the American taxpayers. Both McCain and Obama support giving illegal aliens amnesty and a path to citizenship. In the debate this past Tuesday night, both McCain and Obama expressed support for sending U.S. forces around the world for "peacekeeping" purposes. They also expressed support for sending combat forces against foreign countries even if those countries do not pose a threat to the United States. Neither Obama nor McCain will do anything to stem the tide of a burgeoning police state or a mushrooming New World Order. Both Obama and McCain support NAFTA and similar "free trade" deals. Neither candidate will do anything to rid America of the Federal Reserve, or work to eliminate the personal income tax, or disband the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Both Obama and McCain support the United Nations. So, pray tell, how is a vote for either McCain or Obama not a wasted vote?

Voter machine erratically switches selection: Equipment picks Ralph Nader when John McCain is chosen

From World Net Daily:

A new video showing a W. Va. voting machine erratically switching votes is getting international attention – with nearly 400,000 hits on YouTube.

A Berkeley, Calif., organization, Video The Vote, recently recorded Jackson County Clerk Jeff Waybright attempting to demonstrate the reliability of voting machines, saying he was unable to reproduce a reported vote-switching problem.

"We are totally transparent around here," he said. "We welcome anyone who would like to see how the machines operate and how the machines function."

Video The Vote was attempting to show Democratic Party votes automatically switch to Republican candidates, but the video showed something unexpected.

Waybright began with an uncalibrated machine to prove his point. When he selected Barack Obama, the machine jumped to Chuck Baldwin. He tried again, and it took him to a screen for voters to write in a candidate. The same selection took him to Chuck Baldwin again.

When he selected a straight Democratic Party ticket, the machine chose John McCain. He selected a straight Republican ticket, and it voted for John McCain.

Such problems were to be expected on uncalibrated equipment.

Satisfied that he had proven his point, Waybright said uncalibrated machines would be taken out of service immediately.

"There's no way you can vote on a machine that's out of calibration," he said.

Then he plugged a device into the equipment and said, "I've recalibrated this machine now. This is the same machine that was jumping all over the place just a few minutes ago. Now it is functioning just as it should function."

He then selected a straight Republican ticket.

However, he received an on-camera surprise when he tested the equipment.

The "calibrated" machine did not prefer McCain, as Video The Vote suggested – rather, it selected Ralph Nader.

Obama’s campaign manager offers $3 million dollars to API in connection with Michelle Obama tape to be aired by Fox News Network

Here’s a quick way to make a buck: have a copy of Obama telling the truth on tape or film. Then call Obama’s campaign headquarters.

I wonder, since the MSM has been so quite on the Obama-front, if that’s how they have been staying financially afloat.

From the African Press International:

Six hours after the release of information by API on the planned broadcast by Fox News Network of the Michelle Obama tape, in accordance with an agreement that has been reached between API and Fox News Network, API  was contacted by Obama’s Campaign Manager.

Those who are close to the democratic presidential candidate must be desperate to win the elections no matter what, otherwise they would not have taken such bold step to contact API with an offer of a bribe in order to stop the airing of the tape.

Obama’s campaign manager contacted API by telephone and email offering 3 million US dollars followed with a request to API to cancel the deal with Fox News Network.

Ten days ago API received the first request to accept 2 million US dollars by Mr Ed Hale, President of Plains Radio, Texas - USA, in an effort to suppress the information from reaching the public before the coming US Presidential elections.

API has now taken a decision to contact the American Embassy in Oslo, Norway as soon as possible in order to report the matter and hand over the evidence for investigative purposes.

API’s Canadian lawyer is expected to fly to Oslo shortly in order to assist in the legal matters that arise from the bribery attempt.

API’s Chief editor is expected to travel to New York, together with the Canadian lawyer, where he will appear live in one of the shows that  will air the Michelle Obama tape.

Fox Wrong For Playing Obama's Words

Here’s the quote from Obama Campaign Spokesman, Bill Burton:

“This is a fake news controversy drummed up by the all too common alliance of Fox News, the Drudge Report, and John McCain, who apparently decided to close out his campaign with the same false, desperate attacks that have failed for months.”

Notice that Obama attacks the messengers and not his message.

Another attempt to derail the conversation from his socialism.
