Documentary on gangs being filmed in Idaho
From KREM News in Spokane:
Gangs in Idaho is a locally produced documentary and looks like something that could have been taped somewhere like California, not the Gem State.
"Do you think there is a gang problem in this area.... yes...straight up there is a gang problem in this area straight up." Stated an Idaho resident.
Some of the work already done on the documentary was shown during a panel discussion on gangs in Idaho at the Statehouse this week.
"Now everybody is shooting...back then there was only a couple of us.... there’s no more wanna bes its the wanna bes that are doing the shooting so how are they a wanna be now." Said an ex-gang member
Part of the motivation for the project: experts say gangs often will recruit boys as young as 10 years old. In Idaho’s juvenile justice system alone there are over 700 gang members.
"And it is growing in this state...but it’s not hopeless. We may never eradicate it but i think we can definitely reduced it and that comes through education and that's why we want to do the documentary." Said Rich Granberry, filmmaker.
