Liberal Logic

Tom Hansen posted a hysterical  article (in more ways than one) from the Spokesman Review.

Breast cancer survivors gathered in a chilly Boise park on Monday to call on GOP congressional candidate Bill Sali to stop claiming there's a link between abortion and breast cancer.

"To put this on top of you, this horrible idea that you must've had an abortion because you got breast cancer - that is totally unacceptable, the research isn't there and this kind of statement should not be made," said House Minority Leader Wendy Jaquet, D-Ketchum, herself a survivor of the disease.

Sali should have turned around and said post hoc ergo propter hoc.

Sali says “abortion increases the risk of breast cancer”.

Liberals respond: “I got breast cancer, but I never had an abortion”.

My son took logic in 8th grade and was able to immediately see thru the fallacies of the arguments in the entire article.

Dumb Dems.

Free tickets remain for Cheney's visit

The following story of interest was in today's Spokesman Review (subscription required).

Free tickets are still available for U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney's visit to Coeur d'Alene on Thursday for an "Idaho Victory Rally."

It's unknown exactly how many of the estimated 2,000 vouchers remain, but GOP officials expect to have some on hand today at the Republican Party Headquarters in Coeur d'Alene, 1113 Sherman Ave.

"It's chaos," said Jayson Ronk, executive director of the Republican Party of Idaho, who was at the Coeur d'Alene headquarters Monday. "People were coming in constantly. At times there was a line out the door."

Volunteers doled out hundreds of tickets Monday, including some VIP passes to people selected by the local GOP club. Those VIP vouchers will get people such as "super volunteers" closer to the stage being erected in the Empire Air hangar at the Coeur d'Alene Airport.

Initially it was reported that the rally was invitation-only and would include about 500 people. Ronk attributed the report to misinformation and too many people making comments to the news media.

The vice president's wife, Lynne Cheney, will accompany him for the 5 p.m. speech. Cheney's visit – his second to Idaho in three months – comes as Republicans are pulling out all the stops to rally Idaho voters for the Nov. 7 election.

A New Generation of Adults Bends Moral and Sexual Rules to Their Liking

From the Barna Group:

Do Americans share much common ground when it comes to defining appropriate moral behavior and attitudes? Most Americans say they are concerned about the moral condition of the country and the vast majority of adults describe themselves as moral people.

But the nation’s residents have difficulty agreeing on what a “moral” life should look like – much less how to make ethical decisions or how to define moral standards. A new nationwide survey from The Barna Group examines one of the largest gaps in the moral persuasions of Americans: the difference between those in their twenties and thirties (an age group comprised primarily of the so-called “Buster” generation) and those over the age of 40.

The new study shows a significant divide between the nation’s young adults and its older residents. The project analyzed 16 different areas of moral and sexual behavior and found that Busters’ lifestyles took a less traditional – some would say less moral – path on 12 of those 16 areas. The study also explored 16 different perspectives regarding morality and sexuality, finding that Busters’ views are less conventional than that of their predecessors in 13 areas. In none of the 32 facets of lifestyle or attitude were Busters more likely to possess a conventional moral position when compared with the older crowd of “pre-Busters.”

Sexuality

Perhaps no moral dimension has changed as much as Americans’ perspectives and behaviors related to sexuality. Among the 32 factors examined in the research, eight of them related to such topics as extramarital sex, pornography, homosexuality, and sexual fantasies. In all eight of these areas, Busters were significantly different from older Americans.

Some of these differences show up in the sexual activities engaged in during the past month. Busters were twice as likely to have viewed sexually explicit movies or videos; two and a half times more likely to report having had a sexual encounter outside of marriage; and three times more likely to have viewed sexually graphic content online.

But many Busters also defy sexual convention in their attitudes. For instance, more than two-thirds of the generation said that cohabitation and sexual fantasies are morally acceptable behaviors, compared with half of older adults. Most young adults contended that engaging in sex outside of marriage and viewing pornography are not morally problematic, while only one-third of pre-Busters agreed. Almost half of Busters believed that sexual relationships between people of the same sex are acceptable, compared with one-quarter of older adults.

I commend to you the entire disturbing report.

Seattle Tops List of Safe Cities

Recent polls of interest from the Gallup Organization:

  • Seattle Tops List of Safe Cities: Gallup's annual Crime Poll, conducted Oct. 9-12, 2006, asked Americans to evaluate 16 major U.S. cities as being safe or unsafe places to live in or visit. The public is most likely to rate Seattle as safe, with Minneapolis, San Francisco, Dallas, and Boston also receiving high safety ratings. Detroit and New Orleans are least likely to be rated as safe, along with Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

Brady questionable on guns

The following letter to the editor appeared in today’s Moscow-Pullman Daily News. Great observation, Jack!

Every election year the NRA puts out a candidate endorsement list for those running for public office.

I noted that Jerry Brady, the Democratic candidate for governor in the state of Idaho, had neglected to fill out his questionnaire from the NRA. Rather than receiving a letter grade, as the other candidates have, there was simply a “?” next to his name.

This can generally indicate two things: either he is indifferent to Second Amendment rights, or he is downright hostile.

Since he is endorsed by Cecil Andrus, and Cecil served with Jimmy Carter, who made the lives of gun owners pretty miserable for four years, I would expect that Jerry isn’t real concerned about your firearms rights.

Most of the people running for office fared pretty well, even most of the Democrats, in this poll. There is one glaring exception; Shirley Ringo. She got a “D,’’ which is not a passing grade. She is consistently pro-gun control, even though the incidence of gun-related crime is very low around Latah County.

I just thought you might find this of interest if you hunt, shoot, or just enjoy firearms in general.

Democrats in hunt, poll says: Governor's race among those much closer than usual

From the Associated Press:

Republican and Democratic candidates in two major Idaho political races are virtually tied, according to a new statewide poll of 625 voters who said they would likely cast a ballot Nov. 7.

In the governor's race, U.S. Rep. C.L. "Butch" Otter leads Democrat Jerry Brady 44 percent to 43 percent, in the poll conducted Oct. 23-25 by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research of Washington, D.C.

The survey, done for the Idaho Statesman and KIVI-TV, has a margin of error of 4 percentage points, meaning the numbers for both candidates could be off by that much in either direction, and making the race too close to call. Twelve percent of voters were undecided, while 2 percent said they'd choose third-party candidates, pollsters found.

In the 1st District congressional race for the seat Otter is vacating, Republican Bill Sali, an eight-term state legislator, leads 39 percent to 37 percent over Democrat Larry Grant, a former Micron Technology Inc. executive.

The margin of error for that question was 6 percentage points – again too close to call.

Twenty-one percent of likely voters were undecided.

Third-party candidates got about 3 percent support, the poll found.

Idaho hasn't had a Democrat in the governor's mansion or in Congress since 1994.

Democrats are outnumbered 4-to-1 in the state Legislature, and President Bush won more than two-thirds of state ballots in 2004.

KBCI 2 Boise, Idaho: KBCI 2 Boise, Idaho: Local Couple Speaks Out Against HJR 2

Idaho Values AllianceFrom the Idaho Values Alliance:

HJR 2 supporter Bryan Fischer of the Idaho Values Alliance says they won't lose those rights. He says people like Beswick and Seidl can continue to live their lives, and the only difference is same-sex couples and heterosexual couples who don't marry will not receive the same benefits given to married couples in Idaho.

He says this measure is focused on preventing "activist" judges from ever attempting to allow gay marriage in Idaho, as judges in other states such as Massachusetts and New Jersey have.

"So judges come and judges go. The constitution endures," he said.

Fischer says he believes families are the cornerstone of a healthy society, and that's why any union other than those between one man and one women should not be legally recognized.

"Having a dad is how boys learn what it means to be a man, a husband, and a father. Daughters learn from their mothers how to be a wife and how to be a mother," Fischer said. "They learn by watching their parents interact and how the sexes are designed to relate together. So we want to do everything to preserve the best and optimal nurturing environment for children."

The Idaho Statesman - Marriage amendment has strong support

The Idaho Statesman - Marriage amendment has strong supportIdaho Values Alliance

Twenty states already have passed similar amendments with hefty margins. In the minds of many voters, this is an "easy" issue, he said.

Poll numbers don't surprise either of the campaigns in Idaho. But for different reasons.

"I think fundamentally for most people this is about our shared understanding of what marriage is and ought to be," said Bryan Fischer with the Idaho Values Alliance and an amendment supporter.

From the Idaho Values Alliance:

Today's Idaho Statesman reports that polling commissioned by the newspaper and the local ABC affiliate, KIVI Channel 6, reveals strong statewide support for HJR2, Idaho's marriage amendment. Fifty-nine percent of Idahoans support the measure.

Significantly, the poll was taken before last week's New Jersey Supreme Court decision in which the Court ordered the state legislature to legalize gay marriage or create civil unions. The New Jersey decision will only increase support for the amendment, as it illustrates the genuine threat to marriage posed by activist judges.

Additionally, research indicates that pre-election polling data on marriage amendments undercounts support for natural marriage by anywhere from five to 15 percent. This may be because citizens feel pressure to give politically correct answers to pollsters, but vote their consciences when casting a secret ballot on Election Day.

Idahoans will surely want to settle this matter for themselves and not leave our state's marriage and family policy in the hands of a black-robed oligarchy. The reality is that marriage policy in Idaho is either going to be established by judges or by the people. We believe it ought to be the people.

Most lucrative degrees for college grads

Time to gear my kids up for an IS degree. From CNN Money:

Employers continue to boost starting salaries for the Class of 2006, which is enjoying the strongest job market in four years, according to a recent survey.

The biggest beneficiaries are graduates who majored in information sciences and systems: they are taking home 7.5 percent more than they did last year, according to the Fall 2006 edition of Salary Survey, a quarterly report by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Employers have made a strong effort to attract college seniors and new grads through on-campus recruiting, career fairs, information sessions, and intern and co-op recruiting, according to NACE.

"These salary increases combined with the results of a recent poll of Salary Survey participants indicate that 2005-06 has been the best job market in the past four years," said NACE executive director Marilyn Mackes in a statement.

According to the survey, majors that have seen some of the biggest increases in average starting salaries are:

  • Information sciences and systems: Up 7.5 percent to $47,182
  • Economics/finance: Up 6.2 percent to $44,588
  • Civil engineering: Up 5.3 percent to $46,084
  • Chemical engineering: Up 4.9 percent to $56,269
  • Accounting: Up 4.6 percent to $44,928
  • Business administration/management: Up 4.2 percent to $41,155
  • History: Up 4.2 percent to $33,071

For others, modest increases, some declines. Other majors also experienced slightly higher entry-level offers, but the increases from last year's offers didn't outpace inflation.

  • Mechanical engineering: Up 3.3 percent to $51,732
  • Electrical engineering: Up 2.9 percent to $53,500
  • Psychology: Up 1 percent to $30,369
  • Computer science: Up 0.3 percent to $50,744
  • Political science and government: Up 0.3 percent to $33,094

And in a few cases, starting offers actually declined. This was true for a few of the liberal arts majors, which only saw a 0.2 percent increase overall as a category.

  • English: Down 0.2 percent to $31,385
  • Sociology: Down 0.9 percent to $31,096

Update: And here’s the starting salaries:

  • Chemical engineering: Up 4.9 percent to $56,269
  • Electrical engineering: Up 2.9 percent to $53,500
  • Mechanical engineering: Up 3.3 percent to $51,732
  • Computer science: Up 0.3 percent to $50,744
  • Information sciences and systems: Up 7.5 percent to $47,182
  • Civil engineering: Up 5.3 percent to $46,084
  • Accounting: Up 4.6 percent to $44,928

“The First 100 Days If Democrats Win”

“The First 100 Days If Democrats Win” from James Lileks of the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

  • Day 1: Party like it’s 1992; citizenship for all Gitmo detainees; a blanket amnesty; and a “Circle of Healing” ceremony held on the Capitol steps.
  • Day 2: The troops in Iraq will leave, walking in reverse, as if someone is playing the tape backwards; special construction brigades will quickly repair all the buildings destroyed since the 2003 invasion; and the last American out will reinstall Saddam. Thereafter, whenever someone criticizes America for invading Iraq, we’ll look quizzical and say we don’t know what they’re talking about.
  • Day 3: Bush tax cuts repealed, so the upper 10 percent in income pay 67 percent of all federal taxes instead of 66 percent. That will make all the difference.
  • Day 4: Peace Corps sent en masse to Middle East to apologize personally to everyone and hand out gas-soaked flags and matchbooks. Burn one on us! Don’t you love us now?
  • Day 5: Peace Corps Hostage Negotiation Unit commissioned.
  • Day 6: Gay marriage legalized by congressional voice vote, so no one has to go on record. (This allows gay Democratic congressmen to vote no without being outed.)
  • Days 7-100: Impeachment hearings. Sure, Pelosi has said she’s against them. But as she promised: The children will be in charge.

They’re cranky if they don’t get their way.

Vote pro-life

The following letter to the editor appeared in today’s Lewiston Tribune:

Amid the flurry of political letters to the editor and political ads by the candidates, it seems to me that a certain member of our human family is being marginalized by some of the authors of the letters and, indeed, by some of the candidates for office -- that person being the unborn baby. We all once were an unborn child at varying stages of development, and thanks to our parents and, perhaps the more protective laws that existed then, we were allowed to be born. Only because of this gift of life, are we now able to be concerned with other issues, such as, environment, taxes, poverty, health care, education, etc. Without that right to life with which we were endowed by our creator, there would be no other issues or rights.

Darcy James, the Democrat candidate for District 8 representative A, sees abortion as a "tragic choice." Indeed the killing of 1.5 million unborn babies in our country each year is a tragedy of monumental proportions. However, Mrs. James states that she would not change the laws that make this slaughter legal. Thus, I question whether Mrs. James is "joyfully pro-life" as she claims on her Web site. As you go to vote, please examine the candidate's position on this most important issue and vote pro-life.

Social Security facts

The following letter to the editor appeared in today’s Lewiston Tribune:

AARP has sent out a lot of printed material about Social Security in the last several months. I would like to present some interesting information that I believe has been forgotten by our American citizens concerning Social Security.

  • Which party took Social Security from an independent fund and put it in the general fund so that Congress could spend it? It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic-controlled House and Senate.
  • Which party put a tax on Social Security? The Democratic Party.
  • Which party increased the tax on Social Security? The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the deciding vote.
  • Which party decided to give your Social Security money to immigrants? That's right, the Democratic Party.

Immigrants that move into this country at 65 get Social Security and have never paid a dime into the system. This is costing us millions of dollars. After doing all of this, the Democrats turn around and tell you the Republicans want to take your Social Security away from you. We have forgotten who did what and the Democrats know this. They will say anything to get elected.

Idaho Growth: Continues to be the 3rd Fastest Growing State in the Nation

The following story of interest was in today's Spokesman Review (subscription required).

Not only is Idaho the third-fastest growing state in the nation, the growth isn't expected to end anytime soon.

Just in the last decade and a half, the state's population has swelled from 1 million to 1.4 million – an increase of about 40 percent. If it grows at that same rate for the next 15 years, Idaho would have nearly 2 million people by 2021 – twice as many as in 1990.

Idaho's next governor will have to deal with growth – and help guide the state as it goes through what could be painful changes related to more people, more cars, more crime, more pollution, more businesses and more homes.

"We're a bit schizophrenic about growth," said Jim Weatherby, political scientist emeritus at Boise State University and the former longtime head of the Association of Idaho Cities. "We welcome the growth but worry about it being too much. But how do we slow it down without stopping it? Those are the juggling acts I think every one of our elected officials, state and local, deal with daily."

Moscow won’t have to worry about it, seeing as how our city council keeps new businesses out and makes it nearly impossible for developers to build new homes.

In Spokane

#1 son and I were in Spokane for the weekend.

We typically attend Anglican churches when we travel.

This morning we attended Spokane’s famous St. John’s Cathedral for their Rite 1 service.

If you have never been inside St. John’s, you are missing out. It’s one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the USA.

What struck me this morning, however, was that there were less than 40 people in attendance.

And of those that were there, well over half were over 70 years old.

If the Episcopal Church doesn’t do something soon, they will be going the way of the Dodo bird. And their churches will be just like those in Europe — museums to a religion no longer believed.

Muslim leader blames women for sex attacks

Swami Nick Gier -- Intellectual Leader of the IntoleristaDedicated to Nick Gier, who still cannot tell the difference. From the Australian News:

The [Australian] nation's most senior Muslim cleric has blamed immodestly dressed women who don't wear Islamic headdress for being preyed on by men and likened them to abandoned "meat" that attracts voracious animals.

In a Ramadan sermon that has outraged Muslim women leaders, Sydney-based Sheik Taj Din al-Hilali also alluded to the infamous Sydney gang rapes, suggesting the attackers were not entirely to blame.

While not specifically referring to the rapes, brutal attacks on four women for which a group of young Lebanese men received long jail sentences, Sheik Hilali said there were women who "sway suggestively" and wore make-up and immodest dress ... "and then you get a judge without mercy (rahma) and gives you 65 years".

"But the problem, but the problem all began with who?" he asked.

The leader of the 2000 rapes in Sydney's southwest, Bilal Skaf, a Muslim, was initially sentenced to 55 years' jail, but later had the sentence reduced on appeal.

In the religious address on adultery to about 500 worshippers in Sydney last month, Sheik Hilali said:

"If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat?

"The uncovered meat is the problem."

The sheik then said: "If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred."

He said women were "weapons" used by "Satan" to control men.

"It is said in the state of zina (adultery), the responsibility falls 90 per cent of the time on the woman. Why? Because she possesses the weapon of enticement (igraa)."

Infant Twins Have Different Skin Color

Now here’s real diversity for you. From the Associated Press:

LONDON (Oct. 27)- A pair of British twin boys has been born with different skin color, a rare genetic occurrence according to experts.

In an interview with Britain's Sky News program, mother Kerry Richardson said that the boys were both born white but as they've gotten older one of the boys got darker and the other lighter.

Read DiversityToday, she says, the twins attract attention wherever they go.

Richardson is of mixed race, with Nigerian and English heritage, while the father is white.

A genetics expert at Oxford University says such births are rare, as the genes that cause skin color normally mix together. In this case, he says, it appears the genes for skin color didn't combine for some reason and the boys may have inherited different genetic codes from their mother.

Why submit to judicial tyranny?

TownHallBy Pat Buchanan over at TownHall:

If Gov. Jon Corzine wished to make himself a hero to Middle America, the opportunity is at hand. All he need do is inform the New Jersey Supreme Court he will neither submit nor sign the law it has ordered enacted -- to put homosexual unions on a par with marriage.

At root, what that 4-3 decision, ordering the legislature to enact a new law sanctioning civil unions or gay marriage, is about is: Who governs New Jersey? It is about who decides what law shall be -- elected legislators or judges appointed for life.

In our War of Independence, in which New Jersey was overrun repeatedly by British troops, at issue was whether George III and a Parliament sitting in London, in which Americans had no voice, would govern us, or whether we would rule ourselves. From April 1775 to Yorktown in 1781, Americans fought and died to end that rule of kings -- only to have their meek and timid heirs submit to a rule of judges.

Let us go back to the era of Earl Warren that began in 1954, and consider what, in the span of a half-century, U.S. judges and Supreme Court justices, abetted by state jurists, have done to America.

God, Bible study, prayer and the Ten Commandments have been ordered out of all public schools and the public square of a nation that once proudly boasted of itself as God's country. Pornography has been declared protected by the First Amendment. Cities have been ripped apart, as judges have ordered students, based on color alone, bussed across crime-ridden cities to achieve an artificial racial balance. Abortion, homosexual sodomy and naked dancing in public bars have been declared to be new constitutional rights.

Of all these outrages and idiocies, one thing may be said: No legislature, no executive at the state or federal level would have survived imposing such measures upon us. They would have been hurled from office at the next election. When homosexual marriage was put on the ballot in 13 states in 2004, it was routed in every one by landslides as great as six to one. America rejects it.

Upon what ground, then, does the New Jersey Supreme Court stand to order an elected legislature to enact a law the people do not want? Answer: The court said that to deny homosexuals the same rights as married couples is to treat them unequally, and this violates the Constitution of New Jersey:

"Although we cannot find that a fundamental right to same-sex marriage exists in this state, the unequal dispensation of rights and benefits to committed same-sex partners can no longer be tolerated under our state constitution."

The operative words here are "no longer be tolerated." What the court is saying is that, though there is no right to same-sex marriage in New Jersey, and the state has never voted the rights and benefits to homosexuals it has for married couples, we, the judges in our wisdom, declare this to be intolerable.

Therefore, you, the legislators of New Jersey, and you, Gov. Corzine, are ordered to change the laws of New Jersey to conform to our idea of equality. A tiny minority of judges in America now dictates to the Great Silent Majority.

Values Voters: Outspent, But Not Outnumbered

From the FRC:

Talk may be cheap, but it's certainly expensive on public television. This year, campaigns against life and marriage have cost the left millions of fundraising dollars. In a recent comparison, the cloning and homosexual lobby combined for over $43 million in ads against ballot initiatives in nine states. Compare that with a little over $3 million on the pro-family side, and it's obvious that values voters are outspent on the issues. In Missouri alone, where advocates are working around-the-clock to dupe voters on Amendment 2, pro-cloning supporters have sunk $28 million into the debate, while our side has mustered $1.2 million. While people who cherish life and marriage are under-funded, they cannot afford to be under-represented on November 7. In the 19th century, nearly 100 percent of Christians showed up to vote. Today, less than one-third of believers seem to believe in the democratic process. A nation can only be as righteous as the lawmakers and policies that we, the people, vote for. On Election Day, stand up and be counted. As an American it's your right-but as a Christian, it's your responsibility.

Garden State Plants Seeds for Big Turnout

From the FRC:

For the first time since New Jersey's high court single-handedly energized the pro-family base, President Bush publicly voiced his frustration about the decision. Speaking at a rally in Iowa yesterday, he said,

"We had another activist court issue a ruling that raises doubts about the institution of marriage. I believe that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. We believe in family values, we believe values are important, and we believe that marriage is a fundamental institution of civilization."

With the president at the helm, The New York Times claims that the GOP is moving fast to "reignite the issue of gay marriage." Obviously, some candidates are hoping for the "Massachusetts effect," when the state court imposed in favor of same-sex marriage in 2003. The decision prompted voters to turn out mightily across the country and crush the issue with state marriage amendments. Analysts later discovered that the ruling ultimately helped elect candidates who support traditional marriage. That may explain why the media establishment says the New Jersey ruling is much ado about nothing. They are desperate to put liberal, anti-family people -not only on Capitol Hill-but on the federal bench. An unprecedented turnout of values voters would dash those hopes. As The New Republic's writers spin it, "gay marriage fear-mongering isn't going to be the eleventh-hour savior... This case is not going to fire up that base." If that's true, why are people from both parties tripping over themselves to campaign on the issue? The reality is, Americans don't need more candidates who will capitalize on marriage for political gains, they need real leaders who will act on the issue in Congress and fight to defend the union between a man and a woman.

Social Security

From Dave S.

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

  1. That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,
  2. That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,
  3. That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,
  4. That the money the participants put into the independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and,
  5. That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to "put away" -- you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent "Trust Fund" and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it?
A:It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A:The Democratic Party.

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A:The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the "tie-breaking" deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US.

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants? AND MY FAVORITE:
A:That's right. Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments. The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it! Then, after doing all this lying and thieving and violating of the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away! And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn't so. But it's worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to? Actions speak louder than bumper stickers. Forward this E-mail to others so that they can be informed of the truth.

Prop. 2 in action ... it works!

Remember that article I posted on Sun Valley council retreats from house size limits?

Their city council was working to pass quick legislation to keep the teeth of Prop 2 from going into effect.

The following is from Laird Maxwell:

Our good friends in Sun Valley/Hailey, who have raised and spent $30,000 to promote Prop. 2, are going to win Blaine County for us -- the only county in Idaho that voted for John Kerry.

Tracy Lotz, a leader of Citizen's for Smart Government, predicted early-on that Blaine County was the canary in the coal mine.

Last night at the Sun Valley City Council meeting we witnessed Prop. 2 in action. It was a great success blunting politicians who know better than the people about what is best for them.

IN CONTEXT --

The Sun Valley area is a spectacular place where very successful people have chosen to recreate. The average Idahoan doesn't pay much if any attention to the daily politics in Blaine County. And, if they do ... it is likely viewed as an amusing food fight of the rich and famous, who are mostly out-of-touch liberals.

But we must break through this perception because this news story goes deeper to the heart of the matter about Prop. 2.

The property owners, big, medium and small, were getting gored because of political busy-bodies who think they know better. And, to the property owners' credit -- they finally, finally got the message of Prop. 2 and why it needs to be enacted.

Notice the nuances of the property owners and those who provide services to them and their level-headedness vs. the scare tactics of the politicians. The story is clear. Remember, this came about because Prop. 2 is on the ballot.

Please read this "in context" and let's use this very important event to communicate with the rest of the state. Let's help the property owners of Idaho finally, finally get the message of Prop. 2 and why it needs to be enacted.
