A $10 Million Coffee Burn

A woman in New York is suing Dunkin’ Donuts after burning herself with hot coffee. She wants $10 million. It was only a matter of time after the McDonald’s fiasco, right? Just another reason for tort reform.

Guess we will find out how much protection from law suits the hot beverage signs posted at all the places that I eat at will be. I don't suppose that there is any way that we can prevent stupidity.

Anybody remember the don't drink and drive bumper sticker that read: "Don't drink and Drive, you might hit a bump and spill your drink."

Here's an idea:

Some brave restaurant chain ought to post a sign saying something to the effect of the following:

"Frivolous lawsuits -- both actual and threatened -- account for x% of the cost you pay for food at our establishment."

Gotta do SOMETHING to eliminate popular sympathy for these plaintiffs. It's not a David-and-Goliath thing; nine times out of ten, it's greed (not to mention an utter failure to admit personal responsibility for one's actions).
