‘Bible for Liberals’ class series scheduled

Here you go, liberals! The swami will tell you what you already believe: murder is fine; adultery is fine; sodomy is fine; stealing is fine.

Somewhere in Genesis, someone else said something similar: “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Nah! Not per the Gospel according to Gier.

It would be more intellectually honest to just say you disagree with the Bible than to twist it into saying the opposite of what it really says. But, hey, I guess a PhD means you can twist anything anyway you want.

Retired University of Idaho professor of philosophy and coordinator of religious studies Nick Gier is holding a series of classes called “Bible for Liberals,” with the next class scheduled for Wednesday. The class was originally for members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Palouse, but is now open to anyone who may be interested. The first class was Oct. 4. Topics of the classes include the three-story universe, Old Testament polytheism, the Hebrew Goddess, abortion, the real meaning of sodomy, sanctuary cities, Old Testament prophecies, feminism in the New Testament, the messianic titles and the inspiration of the Bible. Suggestions will also be accepted from participants. After this week, classes are every Wednesday until Nov. 15. The class is held in the yellow house next door to the Unitarian Universalist Church, located at Second and Van Buren streets.
